Candidates must be 16 years or older and will need to bring with them proof of identity (i.e. Passport/National Identification).

About this course

One of the basic training courses under STCW, for persons who would like a career on board ship. The course covers basic safety and legislative requirements to be understood by any person embarking on a career at sea and those designated safety or pollution prevention duties.

The course covers the following:
How to comply with procedures for emergency situations on board
Precautions taken to prevent pollution to the marine environment
Understanding the importance of following safe working practices
Ability to contribute to effective communications on board ship
Ability to contribute to effective human relationships on board ship
Understands the causes of fatigue and knows the necessary actions to control fatigue.

Assessment

Assessment is by ongoing discussion throughout the course and a short, multi-choice written question paper.

Qualifications

This course complies with the STCW Regulation VI/1 paragraph 1 and Section A-V1/1 paragraph 2.1.4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended. A Maritime and Coastguard Agency, STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities will be issued upon successful completion of the assessment.
