Detail information

Who it is aimed at:

This course is aimed at seafarers wishing to update their existing Advanced Fire Fighting certification, and who are eligible for the half day training. Eligibility criteria may be found in the self-declaration form.

LEARNERS MUST COMPLETE A SELF-DECLARATION FORM TO CONFIRM ELIGIBILITY TO UNDERTAKE THE HALF-DAY COURSE – Download a copy AFF-U SELF-DECLARATION FORM or request a form by contacting the administration office at nmtc@northkent.ac.uk

Anyone who is unable to complete this form must complete the full day STCW Advanced Fire Fighting Update course.

Entry requirements

Learners must have the STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting (or equivalent), and a completed self-declaration form to attend the half-day course.

Learners will need to bring these with them and proof of identity (e.g. passport, seaman’s discharge book or other national identification).

About this course

Section A-VI/3 of STCW (paragraph 5) states that ‘Seafarers qualified in accordance with paragraph 4 in advanced fire fighting shall be required, every five years, to provide evidence of having maintained the required standard of competence, to undertake the tasks, duties and responsibilities listed in column 1 of table A VI/1-3.’

Some of the required updating training may be carried out on board ships, with certain elements that must be undertaken ashore at an MCA approved training centre.

For those who have not undertaken the relevant onboard training and are therefore unable to sign the self-declaration form, the full updating training requirements must be undertaken.

Assessment

Assessment is made throughout the course by qualified NMTC staff.

Qualifications

The STCW Updated Certificate is issued on successful course completion.
