STCW Updating Training – Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats Half Day Refresher Course

Who it is aimed at:
Seafarers seeking to update their existing STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats, and who are eligible to attend the half day course. Eligibility criteria may be found in the self-declaration form.

Anyone who is unable to complete this form must complete the full day STCW Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats Update course.
Entry requirements
Learners must have the STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats, and a completed self-declaration form to attend the half-day course.
Learners will need to bring these with them and proof of identity (e.g. passport, seaman’s discharge book or other national identification).
About this course
This half-day day course is designed to add to the learners onboard FRB training and drills to remind them of the dangers faced in when operating FRB including what to do in a capsize situation.
On succesful completion of this course, learners will be able to:
Maintain the required standard of competence in Fast Rescue Boats.
This includes:
- Explain routine maintenance procedures for FRB and measures for contingency repairs.
- Carry out pre-use checks of FRB, including engines and related rescue equipment.
- Carry out PPE checks for crew and self.
- Brief crew for recovery duties.
- Recover a casualty from the water in a controlled pool environment, and effect their safe transfer to a place of safety.
- Undertake waterborne capsize of FRB in an indoor pool.
For learners to be eligible for this course the following training and experience will have been undertaken onboard in the 5 years preceeding the course:
Take charge of a fast rescue boat during and after launch:
- Control safe launching and recovery of a fast rescue boat;
- Handle a fast rescue boat in prevailing weather and sea conditions;
- Use communication and signalling equipment between the fast rescue boat and a helicopter and a ship;
- Use the emergency equipment carried;
- Carry out search patterns, taking account of environmental factors.
