Who it is aimed at:
Seafarers seeking to update their existing STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats.
Entry requirements
Learners must hold a STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (or equivalent). This course contains some exercises that are physically demanding; any learner in doubt about their fitness for this course should seek medical advice before attending.
Learners will need to bring with them proof of identity (e.g. passport, seaman’s discharge book or other national identification) and their STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (or equivalent).
About this course
This 1 day course is designed to remind candidates of the dangers faced in emergency situations and the knowledge and confidence to take charge of the launching and management of survival craft, both during and post abandonment.
On successful course completion, learners will be able to:
Maintain the required standard of competence in survival craft and rescue boats (other than fast rescue boats).
This includes:
Identify the dangers associated with the use of off-load and on-load release
Demonstrate the correct operation of off-load and on-load release devices
Safely operate a survival craft engine,
Safely take charge of a survival craft and rescue boat during and after launch
Safely manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
Rig and use locating devices
Apply first aid to survivors
The Centre will supply wet weather gear and appropriate PPE, students should bring suitable working gear.
Note: There is a half-day version of the course for those who have carried out the required onboard training and can complete all sections on the self- declaration form.
