STCW Updating Training – Advanced Fire Fighting 1 Day Course – (AFF-U)

Who it is aimed at:

Seafarers seeking to update their existing STCW Advanced Fire Fighting certification. Eligibility criteria may be found in the self-declaration form.

 

 

Entry requirements

Updating training is to be undertaken by:

  • Seafarers who have six months or more sea service prior to 1 August 1998 and were exempt from basic safety courses; and
  • Seafarers who have a certificate of proficiency in advanced fire fighting. NB – STCW certificates of proficiency issued under the authority of other administrations will be acceptable.

This course is classroom based.

Learners will need to bring with them proof of identity (Passport, Seaman’s Discharge Book or other National Identification) and previous AFF certificate.

About this course

This 1 day course takes place at our dedicated Fire Training centre, and includes refreshing knowledge of the following:

  • Strategies for control of fire in various parts of a vessel in accordance with recognised procedures.
  • Fire fighting requirements including control of fuel, electrical systems and ventilation, dangerous goods, and management and control of injured persons.
  • Organising and training of fire parties.
  • Inspection and service of fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment.
  • Investigating and compiling reports on incidents involving fire.

Note: There is a half-day version of the course for those who have carried out the required onboard training and can complete all sections on the self- declaration form. Assessment

Assessment is ongoing participation and observation throughout the course

Qualifications

This course complies with the STCW Regulation VI/3 paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/3, paragraphs 5 and 6 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended. A Maritime and Coastguard Agency, STCW Certificate of Updated Proficiency in Advanced Fire Fighting will be issued upon successful completion of the course
