Beneficial for all staff and for first response first aiders in the workplace.
Candidates must be 16 years or old.
The practical aspects of this course can be physically demanding, and students should be free of any condition that would affect their capacity to participate.
The course comprises both theory and practice, and the aim is to provide learners with the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding to enable them to provide appropriate care and manage life threatening conditions, minor illness and injuries. until a more qualified first aider arrives, or in their absence to call an ambulance if deemed necessary.
A First Aid manual will be provided.
Practical exercises are backed up by theoretical input, and it is important that candidates participate actively if they are to generate the confidence that the course is designed to impart.
The course covers the syllabus approved by the Health and Safety Executive, and on completion candidates will:
Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
