Who it is aimed at:

Contractors working on sites within the engineering construction sector. It is required by power generation sites, refineries, petrochemical sites, process industries and many other sites such as paper mills before entry on the site will be permitted.
ECS card holders - the CCNSG safety passport qualifies the holder for an exemption from the ECS Health, Safety and Environmental Assessment.

Entry requirements

Candidates must hold a CCNSG Safety Passport that is in date at the time of the course they wish to attend. They must have conversational level English to allow full participation in lessons and discussions.

About this course

The CCNSG 1 Day Renewal Course is a refresher for CCNSG Safety Passport card holders about basic site safety.

There are four sessions:
1: Overview of Health and Safety framework in the UK
2: Accident/incident causation and the impact of safe, individual behaviour
3: Safe systems of work
4: Common hazards in the workplace

Course Content:
• Safe behaviours at work, including consequences of good and bad safety practices and the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
• Risk assessments, including fire safety, hazardous substances, and asbestos.
• Hierarchy of control.
• Manual handling.
• Provision and use of work equipment regulations.
• Noise and Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome.
• Working in confined spaces and working at height.
• Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations.
• Site transport.
• Signage.
• Excavations.
• Electric/Isolation.
• Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences.

Assessment

Assessment is by multiple choice answer questions at the end of session 3 and following session 4. Delegates must pass both assessments to renew their CCNSG Safety Passport.

Qualifications

A CCNSG Safety Passport accredited by the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB). A temporary safety passport card valid for 6 weeks from the course date is issued on successful completion of the course with the substantive safety passport card being sent to the delegate in 4-6 weeks of this (in practice cards normally arrive sooner than this) and is valid for three years from the expiry date of their existing CCNSG safety passport. ASSURING COMPETENCE IN ENGINEERING CONSTRUCTION – ACE Cards If you hold an ACE card it can be combined on a single card with the CCNSG card on successful completion of the CCNSG Renewal course.
