Crew requiring STCW Survival Craft and Rescue Boat Training – prospective Able Seafarers and Officers of the Watch, and other crew required to take on significant roles in an abandon ship scenario.

Entry requirements
To attend the course learners must be aged 16 or over and hold a Personal Survival Techniques certificate (or equivalent). This course contains some exercises that are physically demanding; any learner in doubt about their fitness for this course should seek medical advice before attending.
Learners will need to bring with them proof of identity (e.g. passport, seaman’s discharge book or other national identification) and their STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST) certificate.
For certification on successful completion of the course learners must provide evidence of 6 months sea service and proof they are aged 18 or over. The issue of certificates for any learner who cannot meet these criteria will be delayed until they can.
About this course
This 5 day course (60% practical and 40% theoretical), is designed to give an understanding of the dangers faced in emergency situations and the knowledge and confidence to take charge of the launching and management of survival craft, both during and after abandonment.
On successful course completion, learners will be able to:
Take charge of a survival craft or rescue boat during and after launch
Start and operate a survival craft engine
Manage survivors and survival craft after abandoning ship
Use location devices, including signalling apparatus and pyrotechnics
Apply first aid to survivors.
The Centre will supply wet weather gear and appropriate PPE, students should bring suitable working gear.
