Who it is aimed at:
Crew and onboard staff requiring STCW Basic Safety Training
Entry requirements
Learners must be aged 16 or over. This course contains exercises that are physically demanding; any learner in doubt about their fitness for this course should seek medical advice before attending.
Learners will need to bring with them proof of identity (Passport, Seaman’s Discharge Book or other National Identification).
About this course
This 2.5 day course is designed to give learners a basic understanding of types of fires, methods of extinguishing them and the onboard firefighting equipment. Learners are introduced to basic equipment maintenance, the use of breathing apparatus and search and rescue techniques, as well as live firefighting.
On successful course completion, learners will be able to:
Understand and minimise the risk of fire on board.
Use onboard equipment, procedures and personal safety requirements in fire situations.
Fight and extinguish fires.
Safely use of Breathing Apparatus
Overalls and protective clothing will be provided, but it is recommended that you bring suitable lightweight working clothes (i.e. socks, shorts and t-shirts) with you.
