Crew requiring STCW Fast Rescue Boat Training.

Entry requirements

Candidates must be aged 16 or over and hold a Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats certificate. This course contains some exercises that are physically demanding; any candidate in doubt about their fitness for such a course should consult their doctor prior to attendance.

Candidates will need to bring with them proof of identity (Passport, Seaman’s Discharge Book or other National Identification). Proof of completion of the Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats course.

About this course

This 3 day course is designed to give the knowledge and confidence to take charge of the launching and management of a fast rescue boat for recovery of an in water casualty, and for the marshalling of survival craft during and post abandonment.

On successful course completion, candidates will be able to:

Understand the construction, maintenance, repair and outfitting of fast rescue boats
Take charge of the launching equipment and procedure during launching and recovery
Take charge of a fast rescue boat during launching and recovery
Take charge of a fast rescue boat after launching
Operate a fast rescue boat engine

The Centre will supply wet weather gear and appropriate PPE, students should bring suitable working gear.

Assessment

Assessment is by ongoing observation throughout the course and a practical and multi-choice written assessment on the last day.

Qualifications

This course complies with the STCW Regulation VI/2 paragraph 2 and Section A-VI/2, paragraphs 7 to 10 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended. A Maritime and Coastguard Agency, STCW Certificate of Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats will be issued upon successful completion of the assessment.
